Cardiοvascular magnetic resonance imaging is a noninvasive cardiac-imaging method used to assess:
• Cardiac anatomy and function.
• Myocardial viability (requires an IV for injecting contrast).
• Structural problems of the great vessels.
• Presence of cardiac inflammation.
• Interstitial fibrosis with T1 mapping sequences.
• Myocardial perfusion imaging at rest and after regadenoson infusion (stress CMR)
Cardiοvascular magnetic resonance exam is most often used to assess heart valve disease, congenital heart defects, cardiomyopathies, cardiac tumors, coronary artery disease and pericardial diseases.
